Installing SSH Tectia Client on Linux on IBM System z

SSH Tectia Server for Linux on IBM System z includes client-side tools that can be installed the same way as SSH Tectia Client. The installation files for both SSH Tectia Server for Linux on IBM System z and the client-side tools are included in the same installation bundle.

SSH Tectia Server for Linux on IBM System z and its client tools are supplied in RPM (Red Hat Package Manager) binary packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux on IBM System z. The same installation packages can be used on all supported Linux versions on IBM System z.

The SSH Tectia online installation bundle contains the RPM installation files and the license file. On the installation CD-ROM, the installation packages for Linux on IBM System z are located in the /install/linux/ directory.

To install the client-side tools of SSH Tectia Server for Linux on IBM System z, follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the commercial or the evaluation version of the installation bundle according to your license type:

    ssh-tectia-server-ibm-z-<version>-linux-s390-comm.tar
    ssh-tectia-server-ibm-z-<version>-linux-s390-upgrd-eval.tar
    

    In the package names, <version> indicates the product release (for example, 6.0.4.123).

  2. Select the client installation packages. Two packages are required: one for the specific components of the client, and another for the common components of SSH Tectia Server and the client-side tools:

    ssh-tectia-client-<version>-linux-s390.rpm
    ssh-tectia-common-<version>-linux-s390.rpm
    
  3. Install the packages with root privileges:

    # rpm -Uvh ssh-tectia-client-<version>-linux-s390.rpm
    # rpm -Uvh ssh-tectia-common-<version>-linux-s390.rpm
    
  4. Copy the license file to the /etc/ssh2/licenses directory. See also License File.
